Ten dollars. A whole year. Everything we write.
A membership keeps every article open to you, all the time, including the ones that close to everybody else after six days. It also brings The Landing to your inbox every Friday, gets you the Featured stories, and hands you the keys to the event calendar and Community Calendar.
That is the whole offer. One price, one level, one button.
What it opens
Four things, and they stay open for as long as you are a member.
Stories are free to everyone for their first six days. After that they go behind the member paywall. Members read everything, this week and five years from now, plus every back issue of the print edition online.
Our weekly newsletter. The best of the week, what is coming up, and the stuff that did not fit anywhere else, in your inbox with the morning coffee.
The pieces we put the most into. The long interview, the profile somebody spent three weeks on. Members get them the day they publish.
Members post their own events. Send a writeup with it and it runs under your name in Community Calendar, where it stays after the listing comes down. Or send the details and let one of our writers do it.
Ten dollars a year
Less than a dollar a month. About the price of one cup of coffee, once, in February.
The archive, back issues of the paper, The Landing every Friday, the Featured stories, the event calendar, and a writeup in Community Calendar under your own name. One level, one price. Renews once a year until you say otherwise, and you can stop it in a click from any email we send.
Founding members
Fifty spots. They are going to fill.
On the train first. Founding members backed us before there was a paper, so their print ads start with the very first issue, January 2027, and run every year through 2029.
Three full-color print ads. At today’s rates, that is $528 in print space alone, and everything else you run with us is half off for the three years.
Two thousand dollars, once. It opens everything a membership does, the archive, back issues, The Landing, the Featured stories, the event calendar, and Community Calendar, and keeps it open for three years, through Dec. 31, 2029, for as long as Minnesota Nice News runs under this name and this owner. No renewal, no annual charge, nothing else to pay.
Founding money is print money. It pays to put Minnesota Nice News on paper and into stores from Duluth to Grand Forks, Fargo, Brainerd, and St. Cloud, in racks where people who never go looking for a website will pick it up. That is what these fifty are funding, and it is why the number is what it is.
You get space in it. Every founding member receives a full-color eighth-page advertisement in the monthly print edition once a year, your choice of month, from January 2027 through December 2029. Three insertions, and design is included. All other advertising you buy in those three years, in the paper and online, is 50% off. If you do not own a business, the space is yours to give to one you like.
And year-round space online. Your name and logo sit on the Founding Supporters page, linked to your own article about you or your business, marked Paid Content. You also get online advertising on the site through 2029, in the format we offer at the time, such as a founding members block on the home page.
The supporters list runs alphabetically. No amounts, no ranking, no tiers, because everybody on it did the same thing: paid at the start, when it actually mattered.
When the fiftieth name goes up, the list closes. Nobody joins it afterward at any price.
$2,000, once. Non-refundable.Reader, member, founding member
Free. Every new story for six days, the monthly print edition, obituaries, weather, and the events calendar. No account needed.
Ten dollars a year. The archive, back issues, The Landing every Friday, the Featured stories, the event calendar, and a writeup under your own name.
Two thousand once, first fifty people only. The same access for three years, through 2029, a full-color print ad every year from 2027 through 2029, starting with the first issue, half off all other advertising, and your name on the supporters page.
What your ten dollars buys
Seven people. Five writers, an editor who reads every word before it publishes, and a publisher who handles the rest. Nobody is getting rich on this.
It also buys gas. This is a big coverage area and the stories are at the far end of it. Somebody drives to the fish fry.
Everybody reads the same journalism, held to the same standards. Nothing is written for members, or about them, and nobody’s ten dollars moves a story an inch. Our editorial standards say so plainly.
A for-profit newsroom
Minnesota Nice News is a company, not a charity. A membership is not a donation and you cannot deduct it on your taxes.
If you own a business, look at advertising instead. An ad is a business expense, a membership is not, and an ad puts your name in front of readers online and in print where a membership does not. It helps us just as much. See what it costs.
Memberships renew automatically at the then-current rate until you cancel. Cancel from any email we send you or write subscriptions@minnesotanicenews.com. Full terms are in the Subscription and Advertising Sales Agreement. Minnesota Nice News LLC, Cass Lake, Minn.
