How classifieds work

The price

$7.50 for 30 words a month, 50 cents a word after that. Add a photo for $7.50.

Where it runs

In the monthly paper, on this page, or both. The two are billed separately at the same rate.

The deadline

5 p.m. the Thursday before the first Sunday of the month.

We tidy it up

Every classified gets a quick edit for length and clarity before it runs.

Place a classified

The order form is just below.

Example: a 40-word ad with a photo is $7.50 plus 10 extra words at 50 cents plus $7.50 for the photo, or $20 a month. Two months in the paper: $40. Add the same two months online: $80.

Classifieds are paid in advance and edited for length and clarity. We don't take political, adult, firearms, cannabis, tobacco, or payday lending ads. Full rules are in our Advertising Terms. Questions: 218-839-8801 or sales@minnesotanicenews.com.

Place a classified

Pick "Classified ad" on the first question, choose the paper, the website or both, type your ad, and tick the months you want.

Print ads run in the free monthly paper. Online ads run on MinnesotaNiceNews.com. Classifieds run in the paper, online, or both, a month at a time. Ordering only a Top Bar Alert, Business Spotlight or sponsored section? Pick Online, choose "No display ad," then look for Featured spots.
Founding members get one full-color eighth-page ad a year, 2027 through 2029, at no charge with design included, and 50% off all other advertising. Answer Yes and a Coupon box appears on the last step for your founding member code.
Included with your founding membership through December 2029. Your logo links to your founding member article. No charge.
PNG or JPG, at least 600 pixels wide.

Print ad

A display ad is your own ad in the paper: a box with your logo, photo and message. Your price is the ad size, plus color, plus a requested position if you'd like one, times the number of issues.

Tick every month you want. Your price is multiplied by the number of months you tick. Display ads are due 5 p.m. the Monday before the issue. Payment is due today for all months. Non-refundable.
The price shown is black and white, per issue. Color is the next question. Full-page ads run inside the paper or on the back page. Any other size can go on the front page, where the price is double.
Added to the size price, per issue. Example: a quarter page is $245, plus $75 for full color, or $320.
Page 3, the center spread or the back page adds $150. The front page is double the ad price in place of the $150.
First come, first served for each issue.
A full-page ad can run on page 3, the center spread or the back page. The front page carries the news.

Online ad

A display ad on MinnesotaNiceNews.com: your own ad, sold by size like the paper. Your price is the ad size times the number of months.

A display ad is your own ad box. Between-sections stands alone across the page between two sections. Center column is the large ad in the wide middle column under Featured. Side column ads sit in the narrow left or right column beside the stories. Sizes are in pixels; prices are per month.
Newsletter banner, podcast mid-roll, a live event. We'll price it and send it with your proof.
The home page is the front page of the site and the busiest, so an ad there is twice the price shown above. Every other page is the price shown. Each page carries its own ads.
Tick every month you want your ad on the site. Your price is multiplied by the number of months you tick. Online ads start on the first of the month.

Featured sponsorships and spotlights

These are different from a display ad. A display ad is your own ad box. A sponsorship has no ad box: your business name appears as "Sponsored by" on one section or category, wherever it appears on the site, and on every article in it. One sponsor each, first come, first served. Stories in a sponsored section follow our usual rule: free to read for six days, then open to members. A Business Spotlight is a paid article about your business, labeled Paid Content, and it stays free for everyone to read.

Top Bar Alert ($3,100 a month): your alert in the bar above our masthead for a month, linked to your own paid article on the front page, plus the top ad spot on the front page of the paper. Business Spotlight ($1,000 a month): a paid article about your business, in the paper and on the site, labeled Paid Content with your name. Live cam sponsor ($750 a month): your name just under the Cass Lake live cam. Sponsored section or category ($450 a month): "Sponsored by" your business on one section or category and every article in it. Featured stories, classifieds, obituaries, reviews and whole pages are not for sponsorship.
One sponsor per section or category, first come, first served. Your name runs as "Sponsored by" wherever that section appears, on the home page and on its own page. We'll confirm it's open when we send your proof.
We can write it, or you can send your own with your links in it. Either way, our staff edits it and it runs labeled Paid Content.
Tell us the topic in a few sentences. Article length is approved by our staff, so we'll confirm the word count with you before it runs.
Tick every month you want. Your price is multiplied by the number of months you tick. A Top Bar Alert or Business Spotlight that includes the paper starts with the January 2027 issue.

Classified ad

$7.50 covers your first 30 words. Each word after that is 50 cents. A photo is $7.50. That is the price for one month in the paper or one month on the website. The two are billed separately.

The paper and the website are billed separately at the same rate. Choose both and you pay for each.
Tick every month you want it in the paper. Classifieds are due 5 p.m. the Thursday before the issue.
Tick every month you want it on the website. Online classifieds start on the first of the month.

After you hit submit.

Three things happen, in this order.

Step 1

We read it

Every ad gets a look from a person before it runs.

Step 2

It runs

Your ad goes up on minnesotanicenews.com and stays up for a month.

Step 3

We share it

We post your ad on the Minnesota Nice News Facebook page too.

Bigger than a classified?

A business, an event or a big announcement may fit better as a display ad. Sizes, rates and standards are on the Advertise page.

Share your ad

Once your ad is live, open it and copy the link. Post it on Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, X or wherever your neighbors hang out. Mention it at coffee hour. Tell the fella at the bait shop. Up here, word of mouth still moves boats, cabins and casseroles.
