Somebody ought to cover the good part.
Seven of us do. Minnesota Nice News covers the whole state, all year. The Northwoods, lake country, and the Red River Valley, from Cass Lake and Walker to Brainerd, Baxter, Duluth, the Twin Cities, and across the line to Fargo and Grand Forks.
The fish, the music, the food, the people, and the water. Every week, everywhere we can get to.
Plenty of our readers do not live here anymore. They read from Arizona, Texas, and everywhere else people from here ended up, because it is still home and they want to know what happened.
That’s news. Nobody writes it down. We write it down.
What we cover
Nice news is still news.
A 12-year-old lands the biggest walleye anybody has seen off that point in a decade. A bakery opens in a building that sat empty for six years. A woman sings Patsy Cline at the VFW and the room goes quiet. Volunteers clear three miles of shoreline in a weekend. A benefit dinner fills the community center on a Tuesday in February.
None of it makes the wire. All of it is reported, checked and attributed the same way any other story would be.
We don’t cover crime, courts or politics. Other outlets here do, and they do it well.
Who’s doing it
Seven people: five writers, an editor who reads every word before it publishes, and a publisher who handles the rest.
Nobody is getting rich on this. They do it because they live here and somebody ought to write this stuff down.
I’m Gregory Moyer, the publisher. Jodi Moyer edits everything that runs. The bylines belong to the writers. The responsibility for what publishes is mine.
When we get it wrong
We fix it, say what changed, and date it at the bottom. Even the nice stories have facts in them. Subject line “correction.”

Reach the newsroom →Tell us something good
When something good happens, tell us. That’s the whole job and we can’t be everywhere. A sentence is enough. We’ll call you if we need more.
Three ways to keep this going
Free, and it’s how most people find us.
The Landing, our newsletter. It comes with a membership. Good news in your inbox, Friday mornings, no algorithm deciding whether you see it.
Not free. That’s the point. Seven people, a lot of miles, and equipment that works in February.
